HS Choir Students are busy this fall!!

As the end of October draws closer, the choir students of Celina HS are gearing up for their upcoming Evening of Motown performance!  Music of the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, and more will be performed in the Ed Complex Auditorium on Fri. 11/9 and Sat. 11/10.  Presale tickets are available at the cost of $5 (the charge for tickets will help offset the production costs of music, instrumental combo, and choreographer, as well as expenses for the upcoming Messiah performance).  All seats are general admission.  Tickets will be sold at the door for this performance at the cost of $8.

The Celina choirs also had the pleasure of hosting the Ohio Northern University Mens Chorus for a special "during school" performance in the choir room Tuesday October 16th!  It was a great experience for the students to hear/see a college level chorus perform!  Dr. Ayling, ONU director has offered to return to Celina to do a clinic with our choir students, likely sometime in February.

Another important upcoming date is the HS choirs' first Messiah rehearsal, which will take place in the choir room on Sunday 10/28, 3-4:30pm.  These Sunday rehearsals will continue until the Messiah Performance, scheduled for Tuesday 12/11 at St. Paul's Church.  The choirs at Celina have been performing selections from Messiah annually for over 25 years.  The students look forward to singing this music!!

An article about the Celina HS choirs' upcoming activities should go to press in the Daily Standard today, Thursday 10/18/12.  Check out the article if you can!

Welcome back to a new school year!!

It's been one week since the 2012-2013 school year has started, and things are off to a great start!  The high school choir students are already busy learning their music for their November Fall Production, whose theme this year is Motown.  This should be a great crowd pleasing show, complete with choreography and a small combo accompanying!  Mrs. Dobmeyer is happy to announce that she will be offering voice classes after school on Tuesdays for high school boys and Thursdays for high school girls!  Many A Cappella Choir students have also been staying after school to sing for Mrs. D individually, to complete their individual singing assessments, which are to be finished by 9/7.

At the middle school, the 7th grade choir is working on the first song they have ever sung in THREE parts, Cripple Creek, learning many new vocal warm ups, and figuring out their vocal ranges.  The 8th grade choir is also learning a few new warm ups this year, working on extending their vocal ranges, and they are beginning work on "Joyful, Joyful", from the movie Sister Act 2.  We are looking forward to lots of great things happening in all of the choir classes this year!

Celina Choirs were impressive at State Contest!

I am so proud to say that the Celina A Cappella Choir and Chamber Choir both qualified for state this year, and represented Celina VERY WELL!!  The A Cappella Choir, performing at state contest in class C for the first time under my direction, received a rating of Excellent (II), which is the second highest rating possible.  The Chamber Choir, performing at state contest in Class A (they qualified for state in class B last year), received a rating of Superior (I), the highest rating given.  Thank you, students, for your hard work, and thank you to our 9 chaperones that accompanied us on our hour and twenty minute ride to Van Buren High School!

Please join us for our Spring Choral Concert on Thursday May 17 at 7:30pm in the Ed Complex Auditorium.  The choirs will be presenting their State Contest music, as well as some fun, lighter music to end the year.  The senior choir members will also have the opportunity to share their plans after graduation.  We wish all of our seniors the best of luck as they pursue their college or military careers, or enter the work force!

Chamber choir 3/16/12

Celina Choirs Are Going to State!! (AND BAND!!)

Last weekend (3/16-3/17) I had one of my proudest moments as a teacher in my 10 year career. My chamber choir qualified for state contest in class A (the 2nd most difficult classification) with straight Superior (I) ratings. This was our first time attempting contest in Class A- we were the only choir in the district to compete in that class. The sang their best and deserved the ratings they received- I was very very proud Friday night! THEN, the next morning, my A Cappella choir students came to contest with a fierce energy in their warm up that I really had not seen before from them as an ensemble. They sang the best I had ever heard them. We walked into the sight-reading room, and were so focused and determined to succeed in their sight-reading exercise. Many of us cried together when the judge announced to us that their sight-reading rating was a Superior (I). We had to work hard, almost daily to get their sight-reading to that level, but their hard work paid off and what a fantastic feeling that was!! The A Cappella choir found out soon afterward that their overall rating was a Superior and that they qualified for state contest! The A Cappella Choir students were (and still are) so excited at the opportunity to establish themselves as one of the state's best choirs. They are continuing to work hard in class, and we are having more fun working/singing than we have had in a very long time! I am so proud of all of my high school students and their efforts! We will be headed to Van Buren High School on Friday 5/4 for state contest! I hope that our ratings at state match the amount of effort we are putting in during our rehearsals!
